… As CBWN Nigeria marks Commonwealth Day 2020

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu has commended the efforts of the
Common Wealth BusinessWomen Network (CBWN )Nigeria in keeping to the ideals of the Commonwealth nation’s and fostering women empowerment as it marked Commonwealth Day 2020 in Nigeria.

March 9th is Commonwealth Day and the governor who was represented
by Permanent Secretary to and Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs Boladele Dapo-Thomas, noted that economic prosperity will be enhanced among Commonwealth member nation’s and particularly women empowerment as the organisation realised its goals.

In his speech, he said, “No nation can feel unconcerned about what is going on in another country because of the potential global dimension of its effects and consequences. Developed economies therefore, have the obligation to connect with and reach out to those struggling with the goal of enhancing their capacity to effectively manage challenges towards attaining meaningful and sustainable development.

“The goal of achieving economic prosperity among Commonwealth member nations will be enhanced with stronger ties and increased recognition of the power of creativity, innovation and technology to solve problems and improve quality of life. I congratulate all members of the management team of the Commonwealth Business Women Nigeria being inaugurated today. This initiative is a welcome development which I believe will complement existing women empowerment and entrepreneurial development programmes being implemented by both the public and private sectors”.

Speaking further, he noted, “Our administration recognises the need to support women and harness their potentials in order to realise the full potentials of our economy. We are open to new ideas and partnerships that will further promote the interest of our women and the girl child.”

The CEO of CBWN in Nigeria, Mrs Afoma Clara Adigwe in her opening speech called for a renewed commitment by Governments and the private sector for women’s economic empowerment in terms of action and acceleration. The management team of the Commonwealth BusinessWomen Network was unveiled which comprised of fifteen persons led by Mrs Nkiru Oyewole as the Chief Operating Officer.
